RingCentral and Alibaba.com teamed up to provide a global communication service for Chinese businesses. The new venture gives Alibaba.com subscribers based in China a method to set up U.S. toll-free phone and fax numbers online.
Before today, Chinese suppliers had no easy way to have a local U.S. point of contact and enable their prospects and buyers to easily connect to supplier offices in China. With RingCentral, a buyer anywhere in the world can dial the U.S. phone or fax number listed on the business’ website and the call or fax will be routed to the company’s office in China. Businesses using this service can also set up custom routing and answering rules to manage time zone differences.
Online fax services company, RingCentral, surveyed its small to medium-sized business customers across the U.S. on their business communication needs. The survey revealed that the Smartphone has become an integral part of daily professional and personal life. Sex and Smartphones tied as the number one thing business professionals surveyed cannot live without. Respondents would rather give up their morning cup of coffee than their Smartphones.
The increasing mobile workforce uses their Smartphone 79% of the time to conduct business, compared to an office or home phone. Thirty-four percent of respondents said they use their Smartphones more than the computer for business and 7% do not take their laptops with them when traveling because they have their Smartphone.

The World Economic Forum selected RingCentral as a 2010 Technology Pioneer. Vlad Shmunis the founder and CEO of RingCentral will be receiving the award in Davos, Switzerland at the January 2010 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.
The Technology Pioneer award is very prestigious. Previous winners have included AdMob, ClearWire, Google, LoudCloud, Mint.com, Monster.com, Sycamore Networks, TellMe Networks, and UTStarcom.
Although RingCentral is probably being honored primarily for their telephone product, RingCentral also does have a great email fax product.

RingCentral conducted a survey on the changing nature of how and where we work. Their findings revealed that almost half of employees spend 75% of their time working outside of the office. Small to medium sized businesses should take note of this and consider shifting from the traditional on site centralized office model to a virtual distributed one.
Key findings:
- 45% of employees spend 75% of their time working away from the office.
- About 15% of small/medium sized businesses have all employees work from a single physical location.
- Even though employees work away from the office, 80% of the businesses want to give the impression that their employees are in the office when receiving or making business phone calls outside of the office.
- This trend is rising. In 2010, 57% of small/medium sized business plan to new hires work remotely and/or with mobile capabilities.
Improving Productivity While Cutting Costs on Overhead
The survey revealed that about 15% of small/medium sized businesses have all employees work from a single physical location. Virtual offices were once the sole domain of field staff and freelancers, but with high-speed internet service and wireless phones, more and more employees are adopting the mobile office model. Also, the ability to access business systems like, online fax services, from remote offices has made much more appealing for employers to facilitate virtual offices.
In addition, the economic downturn has played a role in the shifting paradigm of the traditional office. To stay competitive while remaining responsive to customers’ needs, businesses need to find creative ways to reduce costs. Many of them adopted the virtual office model not only to reduce overhead costs, but expand their talent pool beyond a limited geographical area.
Online Fax Services Fulfill New Business Demands
According to the survey, even though employees work away from the office, 80% of the businesses want to give the impression that their employees are in the office when receiving or making business phone calls outside of the office.
RingCentral delivers online fax services designed for the modern mobile and distributed business world. Remote office users can access their faxes via email and send just as easily.
